About
Name’s Scotch Macaskill (it’s a nickname – real name Andrew) and I live in Curry’s Post, a rural hamlet in the Natal Midlands, about 130km from the city of Durban, South Africa.

As you can see from the photo, I’m no spring chicken. But hell, I’m not that old – as I have to explain to some of my younger friends who think I fought in the Second World War!
Although I originally studied law at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, a few years of practice as an attorney convinced me that law was not for me – too confrontational – so I bailed out and opted for photojournalism. More study, this time a three-year Photography Diploma at Natal Technikon (now Durban Institute of Technology).
Newspapers and Magazines
I subsequently worked on newspapers and magazines in South Africa and Australia as a photographer and sub-editor, tried my hand as a commercial photographer, and published a monthly newsletter, SA Newslink, for South Africans living abroad (soon scuttled by the Internet).
Next I spent about 10 years working in communications/customer-liaison/ for a small company that manufactures safari clothing.
My interest in wildlife and wildlife photography has developed in tandem with travels to some of southern Africa’s great parks and nature reserves, thanks in main to the company I previously worked for and my good friends and wildlife mentors, Andrew Findlay and Kevin Podmore.
Most my photos have been taken in South Africa (Kruger National Park and parks of KwaZulu-Natal), Botswana (Tuli Block, Chobe, Moremi), and Zambia (Lower Zambezi).
I have another wildlife photography site from which I sell wildlife stock photographs, and also a personal photography website, scotchmacaskill.com.
Greatest Dream: To visit East Africa and spend some time in the Serengeti and Masai Mara with only a driver and my camera.
